GETTING HELP-- THE BASIC GUIDELINES

1.  Ask for help when you need help.  Do not ask for help if you need a 'group' or an 'instance.'   RIGHT:  I need some help killing this mob in Nagrand.  Is anyone nearby? // WRONG:  I need help to do Slave Pens.

2. When asking for help, state exactly what you need.  RIGHT:  Is a healer available to help with Durn the Hungerer in Nagrand?  We're here and we almost can get him. // WRONG:  hey i need some help!

3. Understand players are usually NOT swimming around in the Great Sea doing nothing and waiting for something to happen.  If no one is available to help,  then no one is available to help.

4. When you ask for help, you are asking for yourself.  You are not asking for your alts in other guilds, or one of your friends or someone else.  RIGHT:  Can anyone help me with a Murloch quest in Elwynn?   I keep dying. // WRONG: If I log on my mage in another guild, can anyone help me with the Murloch quest in Elwynn?

5.  If you need an instance group, schedule it.    The calendar is there for you to use.  Post your event, invite people, and they will be able to plan ahead.  RIGHT: I just scheduled Maraudon for tomorrow. Sign up if you can go!  // WRONG:  How come nobody wants to do Maraudon right now?

GETTING HELP --  MORE DETAILS

Helping others is an important part of OKT's philosophy.  However, it is easy to burn out a guild until most of its members tune out requests for help that appear in guild chat. So we never want to overdo asking for help.  Guild members tend to budget and schedule their game time, and usually already know what they are going to do when they log on.   On the other hand, there are some game tasks that require help and its going to take more than just yourself to accomplish them.  These tips to asking for help will ensure that you get those tasks done.

THE BIG RULE

Here is the BIG HELP rule of thumb and shall be known as OKT's help rule of thumb:

----------------If it can be done with one other person within half an hour, then it is 'help'. ------------------

Example:  you have been killed more than twice going after a named mob.  You're standing right at him.  You just need one other person's help for 10 minutes to get him down.

If it takes more than one other person, it is not 'help' that you need ---you need a group.

If it takes longer than 1/2 hour it is also not 'help' that you need-- you need an event.  It is often better to schedule an event so that people can plan.

HOW TO ASK FOR HELP:

Yes, there are ways to ask for help and ways not to.  When you ask for help, include what you need help on, where you are, what kind of help you need. Be specific so that people seeing your question can tell if they can help you.

DONT:  'Can someone help me? ' This gives people NO information on what you are trying to do, so they do not know if they can help you.  Often, because they do not know the answer, they just dont answer.

DO:  'Hey guys, Im trying to kill Bachlor in Nagrand, but Im a clothie and he's tough.  Is there anyone near by who can give me a hand ?'  This tells people where you are, what you need and why.  Then they can judge if they can get there, and if they can help you.  Another clothie wont be able to help, but a tank would.

HOW TO GET A GROUP

IF you have a goal (or quest) that takes more than 2 people, you need a group.  There are several ways to get a group and to look for others in the guild who want to group with you.

1) Ask in guild chat, the same way you would ask in trade chat.  Include the important information, what you need, where it is, Examples:

"LFM for group quest (link quest).  Im a healer so I need a tank please."

"Need a tank and dps for a group quest in Nagrand to kill Bachlor."

"Whos up for Circle of blood? I have a tank but we need dps and heals."

2) ASK in LFM or Trade or General.

3) Ask in oktallies channel, or someone in Militant Order of Lothar or Guild of Rock.

HOW TO GET AN EVENT

If something is going to take more than half an hour, then you have an event.  It is often better to schedule an event ahead of time so that people can plan.  It may be something that someone else needs to do as well, and if you use these methods, you increase your chances of finding other people who need the same thing.

"Hey, tomorrow Im going to work on some group quests in Shadowmoon.  Yes those terrible ones..  Anyone want to do those group quests tomorrow at 8pm server time?"

"I've put up an instance for Hellfire Ramparts on the calendar.  Sign up if you want to go!"

"I posted on the guild Classic forum about doing a Leroy Jenkins achievement run.  Go post if you're interested!  Lets do this!'

There you have it...these 3 simple means to get what you need.  Know what kind of 'help' you need..(help, a group or an event), and then follow the advice given.
